What you need
- A Windows 10 or 11 PCNo Mac or phone version yet.
- Google Chrome or Microsoft EdgeEdge comes with Windows, so you're probably set.
- Your own Facebook accountYou sign in yourself, in the app's window.
- A PC that stays awakeChecks only run while it's on. The screen can turn off.
Beta note
Windows might warn you the first time.
The beta installer isn't code-signed yet. Signing takes a paid certificate and an ID check, and we're doing it before paid plans open. Until then, Windows shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" box.

- Check the file name
It should say
FirstSnag-Setup-1.1.0.exe. - Click "Run anyway"
You only need to do this once.
Only do this for a file you got from firstsnag.com or from our email. If Windows says the file is dangerous, don't run it, and tell us.
Setting it up
Five minutes, once.
- Open FirstSnag
Your dashboard opens in your browser. It lives at 127.0.0.1, which means it only exists on your PC.
- Sign in to Facebook in its window
The app opens its own Chrome or Edge window. Log in there the normal way. Your password goes to Facebook, never to us.
- Set your location once
In that window, open Marketplace, pick your city and how far you'll travel. Every search uses it.
- Add a search and turn on alerts
Type what you're after, allow notifications, and send yourself a test alert from Settings.
- Keep your PC awake
Windows Settings, System, Power: set sleep to Never while plugged in. That's the only system setting you change, and you change it yourself.
Updating
The app checks firstsnag.com for new versions and updates itself. Updates are signed, so the app only installs files that really came from us. Your searches and settings stay where they are.
During the beta, we email you when there's a new version, and your searches and settings carry over. Before paid plans open, the app will update itself, with signed updates so it only installs files that really came from us.
Uninstalling
Windows Settings, Apps, Installed apps, FirstSnag, Uninstall. It asks before deleting your data (your searches, listings and the app's own browser profile), so you can keep it for later.
The Windows installer, coming before paid plans, adds a normal uninstaller that asks before deleting your data. Until then, email us and we'll walk you through removing it.
